The SkillsUSA State Competition was held in Columbus, Ohio on March 18th & 19th at the Greater Columbus Convention Center.
The SkillsUSA State Competition brings over 5,000 competitors, business and industry partners, instructors, and vendors together in over 100 contests in all 16 Career Pathways to showcase Career and Technical Education in Ohio.
KCCC had 17 students who competed in various SkillsUSA State competitions. Albert Ross (Precision Machining) was awarded the Gold (1st place) in CNC Turning and advanced to the SkillsUSA National Leadership & Skills Conference, which is held June 23-27 in Atlanta, Georgia.
Evan Williams (Precision Machining) was awarded the Bronze (3rd place) in CNC Milling. Iona Hickerson, Miracle Bartal, and Emma Seymour (all 3 in Health Technologies) were awarded the Bronze (3rd place) in Career Pathways Showcase: Health Services. Dylan Springer (HVAC) was awarded the Bronze (3rd place) in HVAC.
Congratulations to Jody Goetzman, KCCC Board Member, for being honored as a STAR Board Member at the 2025 OSBA Central Region Spring Conference! STAR stands for Service, Training, Aptitude, and Recognition, reflecting their dedication and commitment to education.
Pre-Professional Mentorship students recently completed their second mentorships. Students had amazing opportunities, during the month of February, to mentor with businesses and individuals in the community in career fields they are interested in pursuing. February career interests/opportunities included: probation officer, athletic training, nursing, police officer, military, central intelligence, acting, food service, and engineering. Students had a great time, and learned so much!
Pre-Professional Mentorship is a senior-only program. Students have the opportunity to explore various career fields and college majors while making connections in local businesses.
Wendy Figgins (KCCC's Treasurers Office), visited Mrs. Rine’s Pharmacology class to help with a polypharmacy lesson. She modeled some common medication mistakes and the students warned her of the dangers of taking too many medications from multiple pharmacies and gave suggestions to improve her medicine-taking habits!

Students in Pre-Professional Mentorship had the opportunity to hear from Tyler Thomas, a financial advisor with Northwestern Mutual. Tyler spent time answering questions that students had about topics such as: how much and when to set aside money for retirement, the benefits of saving and investing early, how to budget your money, and the importance of diversifying your money. Great learning opportunity for this group of seniors!
The math department hosted a Pi Day digit contestant. Students competed in two rounds: writing the digits of Pi and reciting the digits of Pi. Congratulations to all participants. Our top 5 winners were:
1st place: Corrina Conrad with 281 digits of Pi
2nd place: Trenton Workman with 111 digits of Pi
3rd place: Evan Williams with 92 digits of Pi
4th place: Anna Kovacs with 91 digits of Pi
5th place: Mya Broseus with 63 digits of Pi

Ohio Concrete held their 3rd annual "Trowel Talks" at Royal American Links in Galena. Mr. Clippinger (Building Trades instructor) and Mrs. Marhefka (Work-Based Learning & Career Development Coordinator) were guest speakers at the sold out event. Seniors & juniors in Building Trades were in attendance for the "Trowel Talks". Various speakers highlighted aspects of the concrete industry. Students had the opportunity to spread out and sit at tables to connect with future employers and people in the concrete industry. Mr. Clippinger & Mrs. Marhefka did an outstanding job presenting at the event & our students gained valuable knowledge from this event!
Student Council would like to thank Terri Gilmore of Ryan's Case for Smiles and the Ronald McDonald House for organizing and hosting us! Student Council toured the largest Ronald McDonald House in the country, located in Columbus, and learned about the donors who have created many different themed areas to serve families in need. Students learned about ways we could partner with the RMDH and delivered pillowcases made with Ryan's Case for Smiles earlier in the school year. After leaving RMDH, students cleaned up trash at the park and had lunch at Budd's Dairy Hall where they could try food from many different cultures! Great opportunity for our students!

Ms. Jazmine, a senior in Early Childhood Education (ECE), taught lessons on the circus to KCCC's Preschool children. Children learned that that person in charge of a circus is called a ringmaster and members of a circus work together as a team to make a production. Children participated in the following activities in learning about the circus:
-Popcorn sensory bin
-Make your own lion
-Cotton candy painting
-Train building
Students in ECE have fun preparing children for kindergarten!
