National Wreaths Across America Day
Saturday, December 16, 2023
In Partnership with Wreaths Across America, the Knox County Career Center is asking for sponsors for wreaths to lay on the gravesites of veterans at Mound View Cemetery on December 16, 2023. Our goal is to have as many wreaths as possible. Currently, there are about 1050 veterans buried at the cemetery.
There are two different things that anyone can do to help out. The first thing is to come to Mound View Cemetery on December 16, 1200 (noon), for a brief ceremony, then to lay wreaths. This will typically take about one to two hours. It could take more or less time depending on the number of wreaths and volunteers we have.
The second thing people can do is sponsor wreaths. Wreaths are $17 each. Each person can buy as many or as few as they would like, but the bottom line is, we must have sponsors for wreaths for this to be successful. There are a couple of ways a person can sponsor wreaths:
First, they can go to: www.wreathsacrossamerica.org/OH0017P. This will take them to our "partnered" website with Wreaths Across America and ensure the wreaths go to Moundview Cemetery.
Second: a person can go to the Knox County Career Center web page, scroll down under "events" until they see a flier for Wreaths Across America, click to look at the flier, and then scan the QR code. This will take them to the website.
Please note, that for every wreath sponsored on the website, the JROTC will receive a $5 donation.

"When my teacher, Mr. Banks (Highland) explained what the Travel & Tourism program was about, I was hooked. I thought to myself, this would be an amazing program. My personality was a match for this type of career. After that program, I knew I wanted more. So, I enrolled and graduated with an Associates Degree in Hotel Management. I did work in hotels from 2004-2008, from a housekeeper to a guest service worker. The program at KCCC prepared me for my success in getting to know what I wanted to do. I know that I am not working in the hotel/travel industry but it still made me who I am today. I feel more confident when leading new hire onboarding classes, plant meetings, and benefit meetings in front of 170 employees."

"It is hard to sum up everything that the Knox County Career Center means to me, honestly. I attended KCCC from my sophomore year to my senior year. The experience I had at the career center was simply priceless. I gained so many extremely valuable relationships and mentors along the way. I was around the staff who wanted to see me reach my potential and were willing to help me do so daily. I cannot thank KCCC enough for helping me get to the point I am today." -Catherine Colopy (Elfrink)
